Council Candidate Forum by League of Women Voters of Johnson County

IOWA CITY –The League of Women Voters of Johnson County will hold a Council Candidate Forums in Tiffin on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 7 – 8:30 p.m., in City Hall, 300 Railroad St.

Declared candidates have been invited to participate in the forum.  Mayor Steve Berner is unopposed in seeking re-election to a two-year term. Five candidates are seeking a four-year term for city council: James Bartels (incumbent), Al Havens (incumbent), Joan Kahler (incumbent), Royce Phillips and Eric Schnedler.

League member Linda Levey will moderate the Council Candidate Forum. Council candidates will have opportunities to introduce themselves at each forum. Audience members attending the forum may pose questions written on cards for the panel.

LWVJC Board President Syndy Conger is pleased to note that two Johnson County towns have asked the League to host candidate forums. “Each year, the League of Women Voters hosts public forums to inform voters and the public about important issues and elections impacting our communities. An informed electorate is very important to our democracy.  We are enthused to offer a Council Candidate Forum in Tiffin for residents.”

The League of Women Voters of Johnson County is dedicated to keeping an informed electorate through advocacy and community events. The LWVJC is a member of the National League of Women Voters, consisting of 50 state Leagues and 803 local chapters, and a member of the League of Women Voters of Iowa. LWVJC, a nonpartisan political organization founded in 1920, will celebrate 100 years of service in 2020.
